The clouds stayed away for most of the 3rd Annual Rig Cruise Car, Bike & Truck Show & Shine and the rain held off until the awards were presented. The only people who got wet were those participating in the dunk tank and that included the Founder, President & CEO of Katch Kan. More on that later.

This was an opportunity for vehicle enthusiasts to both show off their wheels or come to the Katch Kan parking lot and check out some amazing vehicles.

73 vehicles were on display – cars, motorbikes & trucks. They ranged from show vehicles that never get driven and are so clean you could probably eat off the engine block. Not sure why you would, but you could!

Other vehicles get plenty of use during the summer but you wouldn’t know it as they were in showroom condition.

Like the previous two years this Show was a fundraiser for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The Stollery Children’s Hospital opened in Edmonton in 2001. The Children’s Health Foundation started that same year but its precursor, the Northern Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation to advocate for a children’s hospital in Edmonton. The name change was to honour Bob and Shirley Stollery who played a major role in making the Hospital everything it is today.

As for the hospital it support. The Stollery, located within the University of Alberta Hospital, treats children from northern and central Alberta, British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Saskatchewan as well as parts of Manitoba. It is Western Canada’s referral centre for pediatric cardiac surgery and national leader in organ transplantation. It is also the site of Canada’s Pediatric Centre for Weight and Health.

Another hilight of the Show & Shine was having mixed martial artist and former UFC competitor Tim “The Thrashing Machine” Hague on site both signing autographs and making a splash in the dunk tank.

Speaking of the dunk tank – let’s get back to Katch Kan’s Quinn Holtby.

The company’s CEO made a challenge to the crowd. Raise $500 for the chance to dunk him and he would double that amount for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Then while sitting on the dunk tank seat he challenged the crowd once again. Get up to $750 and Holtby would triple it.

In the end numerous participants managed to dunk Holtby. In the 30 minutes he sat in the tank $2250 were raised.

When the day was done a total of $10,127.83 was raised. The 3 year total amount donated to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation sits at $28,310.84. A special thanks goes out to all the events supporters – staff, volunteers, participants and attendees – who help made this possible.
